Gessner grabs win in K Town!
Last Saturday night Cameron Gessner did his point score no harm whatsoever as he raced away to victory in the Kalgoorlie round of the 360 Sprintcar Power Series, bagging himself maximum double points for the night.
Gessner was undefeated in the heat races as he raced away to two strong heat victories. He then came in second behind the impressive David Hall in the pole dash, setting up a front row start for the feature.
Unfortunately the race meeting at Kalgoorle took its toll with only nine of the twelve competitors able to start the feature: Terry Cutts and Sean Zemunik having mechanical issues, while Steven Ford suffered some chassis damage to his W82 machine after being involved in a heavy roll over during the heat races.
Despite the smaller field the racing was first class, with David Hall and Gessner starting on the front row together for the feature event. The duo battled it out, with Gessner racing away while home town hero Dean Terry raced his way into second place. Brett Barndon continued his impressive rookie season and grabbed third from Hall and this would be how they finished the feature event.
Special mention must go to AJ Nash who had his first official competitive race meeting on the weekend. He kept the car straight, stayed out of the more experienced competitors way and most of all consistently finished races, including an eighth place finish in the feature event. Well done AJ.
Earlier in the night Aldo De Paioli set quicktime, while heat races went to Gessner (2), Dean Terry and Corey Hunter.
The next Power Series round will be at QUIT Bunbury speedway on the 17th of January, but between now and then the 360 Sprintcars have race meetings at the Perth Motorplex (including the Muster on the 3rd of January) and their state title at QUIT Collie Speedway on the 10th of January.
