BACK 2 BACK FOR BOYES

AMCA STATE TITLE WINNERSDAVID BOYES GOES BACK TO BACK

It was twice as nice for local David Boyes, who took advantage of a home track advantage at Kalgoorlie International Speedway last Saturday night to successfully defend his Western Australian AMCA Nationals Title.

After a solid performance in the heat races, the Kalgoorlie-based racer started the 30-lap Western Australian Title deciding feature race from pole position. Despite a strong challenge at the midway point from interstate competitor Tim Reidy, which saw the Victorian was unable to find a way past, Boyes went on to complete an overriding victory.

Reidy held on to cross the line in second, ahead of Western Australian Murray Parsons in third. Victorian Jamie Collins finished narrowly off the podium in fourth ahead of ex-Production Sedan racer Matt L’Huiller, Late Model racer Michael Holmes, Glenn Fiorenza, David Newbury, Aaron Mahylenko, Brad Wright and the final finisher David Mackie.

To win the Western Australian Title is an achievement in itself, but according to Boyes, this one meant even more than his first.

“It was fantastic to be able to defend the Western Australian Title on home soil,” expressed a jubilant Boyes.
“To be able to have all of my friends and sponsors watching on the night made it (winning) even more special.
“It was also exciting to be able to compete against some of the best drivers in the country in Tim (Reidy) and Jamie (Collins) and then to be able match them on performance and come away with the win was great.”

The night didn’t go to plan for former Western Australian Champion Aaron Hancock, who was running in the podium contention before a mechanical issue ended his race on lap 22. Greg Horan, driving the ex-Mark Lincoln Australian Title winning Panther car, suffered similar issues and was out of the fight on lap 13.

Heat-race wins earlier in the night at the Western Australian Title were shared between Reidy (x 2), Hancock, Boyes, Shaun Cubbage and Parsons.
